What we do
The Barbados National Registry for Chronic Non-Commmunicable Disease is a national surveillance system operated by the Chronic Disease Research Centre of The University of the West Indies, on behalf of the Barbados Ministry of Health.
 

Mission Statement

“To collect, collate and disseminate timely and accurate national data on the occurrence of cancer, stroke and acute myocardial infarction (acute MI), in order to contribute to the prevention, control and treat-ment of these diseases in the Barbadian population.”

 

Vision statement 

"To be the leading national, population-based, non-communicable disease registry in the Caribbean region, through the maintenance of a comprehensive, reliable and quality surveillance system."

Objectives

  • To maintain a high quality database.
  • To establish baseline levels of stroke, heart disease, and cancer.
  • To provide regular reports on disease incidence, mortality, and survival.
  • To respond to requests for information on these diseases.
  • To provide tailored reports and analyses of aggregate data as requested
  • To assist with the estimation of future disease impact.
  • To assist with the investigation of interventions and/or preventative measures.
  • To plan resources, and highlight at-risk groups.
  • To provide information to enable strategy development for national control programmes, where appropriate.
