 Acute Myiocardial Infarction Workshop Summary

The BNR, in collaboration with the MoH and QEH, provided one interactive training workshop which allowed public and private physicians to either review or update their knowledge about acute MI, and to discuss issues related to accurate diagnosis. The second acute MI workshop was officially opened on 29th August 2013. Participants were welcomed by Ms Lauren Maul and opening remarks were given by Dr Elizabeth Ferdinand CMO (Ag) for the MoH. There was a total of 132 participants overall, with medical attendees from public and private sectors including medical students.

The main discussions for this workshop were in the following areas: 1) Universal definitions of acute MI:  familiarity with the most recent definitions; 2) ECGs: ECG mimics of acute MI and 3) Post-test: putting it all together

The repetition of the workshop on a more frequent basis, as suggested, would allow public and private physicians to better develop their skills in the diagnosis of acute MI.

We thank the presenters and panellists who gave of their time to provide an informative and thought-provoking for participants. We also thank the Ministry of Health and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for their financial and technical support.
